Scientists of the biotechnology laboratory of the Center for Technology of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have developed a waste-free method for obtaining citric acid, based on the fermentation of microorganisms. It is convenient in many respects and a very important biotechnological method for ensuring economical production.

Today, one of the main problems is the processing of waste from industrial enterprises of the country and the establishment of waste-free production. In solving these problems, biotechnology methods occupy a special place. The production of organic acids by a biotechnological method makes it possible to successfully solve this problem in the relevant industries.

Citric acid is the most common organic product. It is used in large quantities in many industries. It has a milder taste and is less irritating to the gastrointestinal tract than other acids. Therefore, most of the acid produced in the world is used in the food industry, medicine and technical fields..

In the food industry, citric acid is widely used in the production of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, in the refining of vegetable oils, as a pH regulator. Citric acid is also used as a preservative to protect foods from oxidation. In addition, citric acid is used for technical purposes, in the textile industry, to remove iron deposits from boilers and hot water systems, to prevent foaming.
