THREE SECOND RULE AND OTHER CRITERIA OF SUCCESSFUL ONLINE MEDIA

Internet is a global informational space, in which various news flows are created, promoted and integrated. It is ell-known that rating of online media is determined by the indicator of the clicks (the readers decides if he wants to visit the webpage or not within three seconds). How to make it so your information will be clicked, to convince to choose your internet publication?

The answers to these and many other questions were given by international experts in the sphere of digital journalism at the meeting with representatives of Turkmen mass media held in online format.

Three-day training on the subject “New media, digital journalism and media awareness” has been held in the building of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan. The event has been organized by the IWRP (The Institute for War and Peace Reporting) in Central Asia under support of the Embassy of Great Britain in Ashgabat and the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

Begayim Ajikeyeva, the representative of CABAR.Asia Media School and coordinators of the project of development of new media and digital journalism in Central Asia, was a moderator of the training.

The CABAR.Asia Media School is an educational platform of IWPR media organization on Central Asia, which works for all, who tries to develop oneself in media, communication and expert analytics. The trainers of the Media School are professional journalists, who have shared their experience with Turkmen colleagues.

Vsevolod Pulya, the media coach from Russia, has told how to present the information on the internet in order the “three second rule” to work out. The presentation has introduced the instruments, which define competitive advantages of publication, to the participants. The first thing, which attracts the reader, is a bright, emotional and intriguing headline. The figures in the headline is also a component of success. Ordinary people’s language, absence of clichés and official jargon, conciseness but  adequate content of sentences and paragraphs, all of these are advices of the coach, the benefit of which was demonstrated to the audience in visual examples on the monitor.

The subject of communication with readers by visual storytelling using visual images has been presented by Ayzada Toma, the coach from Kyrgyzstan. Ayzada has introduced modern tools of new media – the Canva.com and Tilda platforms, which capabilities allow making photo and video plots, graphic histories and own websites easily without programming knowledge.

Presentation of Tara Todras - Whitehill (USA) was dedicated to the storytelling technique as well as to presentation of the interview on the internet. The program of the training has also included such subjects as international standards and ethical norms of journalisms, ways against fake news (false information), formats of new media in the age of social networks.

Timur Toktonalieyv (Kyrgyzstan), Marat Mamadshoyev (Tajikistan), Adam Tinworth (UK) and Alexander Gorokhovsky (Ukraine) were among the coaches who presented the trends of development of digital journalism.
