THE FIRST CIS SPORTS GAMES TO BE HELD IN KAZAN
From 4th to 11th September this year, Kazan will host the First Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States. To date, more than two thousand participants have already been announced for the Games, of which about 1500 are athletes (aged 14 to 23) from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan - the official website of the Organizing Committee of the Games informs.
The idea of holding the Games, the main goal of which is to strengthen the traditionally established friendly ties between peoples, was approved three years ago at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe.
Due to the sanitary and epidemiological situation and difficulties with air traffic, the Games were postponed to a later date. These circumstances today, especially after the Tokyo Olympics, cause each athlete an additional and understandable desire to participate in competitions at the international level, once again assess their capabilities, and determine the skill level of future rivals in competitions.
A preliminary meeting on the readiness of the Organizing Committee for the upcoming Games was recently held at the House of Government of the Republic by the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
Focusing the attention of the audience on the importance of the Games, the President noted: “This is not only a sports holiday, but also a symbol of friendship between our peoples, linked by a common history, cultural and spiritual values.” Rustam Minnikhanov also noted that such competitions are being held for the first time. This is a great responsibility for the organizers, hence the event must be held at the highest level.
It should be added that the Firebird will become the logo of the upcoming Games, and the Bars will become its official mascot.
Turkmen athletes will take part in 10 of the announced 16 sports - streetball, boxing, belt wrestling, judo, karate, Koresh, bullet shooting, sambo, wrestling and Thai boxing.
Currently, our athletes and their coaches are intensively preparing for the Games. Let's wish them good luck and more victories.
