PRIORITIES OF COOPERATION BETWEEN TURKMENISTAN IN FAO UP TO 2025

Signed last month the Framework Program for cooperation in Turkmenistan for 2021–2025 between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations became an important milestone in the cooperation of our country with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization. Noting Turkmenistan's commitment to reforming and strengthening the agricultural sector to meet national needs and addressing global challenges, FAO is ready to assist the country in this process.

At the same time, it is considered that the development of the agro-food sector - the largest employer in the country - has great potential for diversifying exports and increasing opportunities for the rural population, as well as the fact that the transformation of food systems gives the country the opportunity to adapt and adapt to change.

Based on this, FAO is ready to support the agro-food sector of Turkmenistan in three priority areas: data collection and analysis, in particular for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); promoting the creation of a more productive, efficient and digital agricultural sector with increased export potential; and assistance in the prevention and response of natural disasters, as well as in the sustainable management of natural resources.

In particular, FAO will support the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and other relevant ministries and government agencies in strengthening institutional capacity for statistical data collection and reporting on agricultural development, production and trade. As digitization is an important element of agricultural development, FAO will help the Ministry and other key partners to develop and use digital technologies and tools to improve living conditions in rural areas and agribusiness, as well as to increase productivity and productivity from agriculture.

Turkmenistan can rely on FAO's experience in analyzing the export potential of the agro-food markets and production chains, as well as on the recommendations for strengthening the export potential of the agro-industrial complex.

FAO's third priority will be to support the country's efforts to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change. In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection can use assistance in conducting measures to combat locusts and wheat rust diseases, as well as in assessing the needs of agriculture in the event of natural disasters and development strategies. Broader access to innovative approaches, digital technologies and environmentally friendly solutions will lead to efficient and sustainable use of energy, water, land and other natural resources.
