DAYS OF SCIENCE AT S.A. NIYAZOV TSAU: FOCUS ON RESULTS
The Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov hosted a weekly scientific and educational meeting, called the Day of Science in the agricultural university.
The event brought together representatives of business structures, employees of research institutes, Turkmen farmers, teachers and students of the host university, Magtymguly Turkmen State University, Oguzhan Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan and other specialized specialists.
An interesting presentation dedicated to the fastest growing tree in the world - Paulownia (Adam's tree) was presented to the attention of the meeting participants. Due to its unique qualities and properties, Paulownia has received other names in different countries of the world - the Tree of the Future, the Phoenix Tree, the Sapphire Tree. In its homeland, China, Paulownia is known as the Dragon Tree.
The technology and ease of growing Paulownia in local climatic conditions, the invaluable benefits of these trees for the environment, the possibilities of their multi-purpose use in various industries and much more were discussed among specialists in the agricultural sector.
As the entrepreneurs noted, the light and at the same time high-strength Paulownia wood is widely used in the construction industry, the manufacture of furniture, packaging materials, and musical instruments. One of the main advantages of Paulownia is the ability to produce biofuel from its cellulose, which is extremely important in the current search for alternative energy sources to protect the environment.
The large foliage of the tree is rich in proteins, fibers and trace elements, has good digestibility and is used in animal husbandry as livestock feed. From the fragrant flowers of Paulownia, you can get excellent honey, rich in vitamins and minerals. The leaves and flowers of the plant are used in pharmaceuticals and perfumery. Along with all the valuable qualities, Paulownia is an ideal decoration for streets, parks and squares, capable of absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide. The branched root system of the tree improves the quality and structure, eliminates soil erosion.
Detailed and colorful, with a slide show on a large monitor screen, the information was presented primarily for the target audience - student youth, in whose hands the future of the country's agro-industrial complex, the development of the national economy.
The Days of Science at the TSAU named after S.A. Niyazov are held on a regular basis, every Saturday. They cover a wide range of topics and greatly enrich the learning process. The traditional participants of the meetings are representatives of specialized structures, universities, local and foreign companies operating in the country.
For example, among the guests of the previous meeting at the university were representatives of the Austrian company Nourivit, which specializes in the development, production and distribution of environmentally friendly products for integrated use in agriculture. The company's specialists held a presentation of biofertilizers, which contribute to the protection, active growth and increase in crop yields.
Meetings at an agricultural university are not limited to theory and scientific discussions. Their main task is to apply the acquired knowledge with benefit, consolidate it in practice and get results. For this, students are provided with many opportunities, both on the vast territory of the agricultural university and beyond.
Under the guidance of mentors, future agronomists cultivate fruit trees and vineyards at open experimental sites of the university. Practical classes are also held in the greenhouse built at the university, divided into six large sections. Here, novice greenhouse specialists conduct experiments on growing various crops, test seeds, fertilizers, soil, preparations for feeding and protecting plants.
As noted by the senior lecturer of the Department of Plant Protection and Sericulture, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Merdan Pirlekov, instilling professional skills in students, we, first of all, focus on the priority tasks of the development of the domestic agro-industrial complex. Our current experiment aims to compare and analyze classical and soilless methods of growing plants using vegetable crops as an example. When using a soilless (hydroponic) method, which has a number of advantages over the classical one, ordinary soil is replaced by substrates - mixtures of two or more components. In search of an alternative to replace imported components, we test mixtures based on local raw materials, thereby participating in solving the most important task of import substitution.
The wisdom of mechanization in practice, students comprehend in training centers equipped with advanced agricultural equipment from foreign manufacturers CLAAS, John Deere, Case, Caterpillar, etc. A grain harvester simulator is also installed here, which allows you to gain machine control skills when harvesting. Growing specialists should know everything about the operation, device, and maintenance of powerful equipment. Representatives of foreign machine-building companies are also involved in the training of students, who conduct thematic online classes. For growing farmers, trips to farmlands, technical bases, farms and other structures of the agricultural industry are organized.
The platforms for practice, scientific research, observations, experiments for students and teachers of the TSAU named after S.A. Niyazov are also included in the metropolitan Botanical Garden, Scientific and Production Centers for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding, Makhtumkulin Scientific and Production Experimental Center (Balkan velayat).
All ongoing activities allow future specialists to train and develop professional skills and abilities, and also provide an opportunity to look from the inside at the domestic agro-industrial complex, which combines several of the most important sectors of the national economy in which they will have to work in the future.
