TURKMENISTAN WILL PUT FORWARD A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT INITIATIVES AT THE SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Turkmenistan will put forward a number of important initiatives at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, which will begin work on September 12, 2023 in New York. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported on the preparation of Priority Positions of Turkmenistan at the session of the UN General Assembly.
This year, the Turkmen side plans to put forward an initiative to develop a Global Security Strategy. Along with this, it will be proposed to establish a permanent structure on security issues in Central Asia and to hold its first meeting in 2024 in Ashgabat.
Another proposal of our country concerns the establishment of a Combating Terrorism Program for Central Asia together with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
At the 78th session of the UNGA, there will also be announced Turkmenistan's initiative to hold a major international forum on food security in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund.
In addition, it will be proposed to organize in Turkmenistan in December 2024 an international conference of the Group of Friends of Neutrality, formed on the initiative of our country on the basis of the United Nations, as well as to start studying the possibilities of establishing the Institute of Neutrality and Security in Ashgabat.
On the occasion of the declaration of November 26 as the World Sustainable Transport Day, Turkmenistan will put forward an initiative to hold a high-level conference within the framework of the Ashgabat process during the next session of the UN General Assembly.
The environmental sphere is an integral part of our country's partnership with the United Nations and its specialized agencies. In this area, Turkmenistan will continue to work on the implementation of its initiative to establish the UN Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia. As a contribution to the efforts within the framework of the Global Methane Pledge, Turkmenistan proposes to develop a universal strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions until 2030 under the auspices of the United Nations.
At the same time, Turkmenistan will announce proposals on the establishment of "Caspian Environmental Initiative" and the UN Council on Water Resources Use in Central Asia with the headquarters in Ashgabat.
In connection with the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, Turkmenistan plans to organize relevant events together with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Our country will also propose to organize a regional conference on the elimination of statelessness in 2024.
Among other initiatives to be announced at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly are the holding of the founding meeting of the Dialogue of Central Asian Youth in Turkmenistan, as well as the organization of the International Week of Turkic Languages in 2024 jointly with UNESCO and TURKSOY to mark the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy. At the same time, it will be proposed to adopt a resolution "World Day of Turkic Languages".
As noted, if approved by the head of state, the Priority Positions of Turkmenistan at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly will be sent to the UN Secretariat, disseminated through diplomatic channels in the member countries of the Community of Nations, as well as covered in the national and international media.
Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is actively participating in the development of balanced solutions to key issues on the regional and global agenda concerning the consolidation of peace, security and stability, achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The head of state instructed to take measures to inform the world community of the Priority Positions of our country, to promote and practically implement its international initiatives.
