TURKMENISTAN IN THE GLOBAL TRANSPORT DIALOGUE

The II International Conference and Exhibition "International Transport and Transit Corridors: Interconnection and Development - 2023" is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat on May 3-4. This event is another evidence of the activation of Turkmenistan in the global transport dialogue, further promotion of its transport diplomacy, aimed at creating an effective multi-vector system of mutually beneficial relations that contribute to the growth of world trade and the sustainable development of countries and continents.

International transit and transport corridors are of particular importance for the continentally closed Central Asia, providing regional countries with access to world markets for goods and services. And Turkmenistan, which occupies a favorable geographical position at the crossroads of the Eurasian transport routes, can serve as a hub for the entire region in the implementation of multimodal cargo transportation in various directions.

Recent events confirm the existence of such a potential and the consistent steps taken to realize it. Thus, during the recent official visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Kingdom of Bahrain, important agreements were reached and several bilateral documents in the transport sector were signed, which are of breakthrough importance for the integration of the transport system of Turkmenistan into the international transport and communication infrastructure. These are the Agreement on Air Communication between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Memorandums of Understanding between the Governments of the two countries on cooperation in the field of maritime and rail transport, as well as granting our country the status of a partner within the Global Sea-Air Logistics Hub, confirmed by the relevant Certificate .

The development of the Middle East vector of the transport policy of Turkmenistan was also discussed in Ashgabat at the meeting of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Minister for Affairs of the Office of the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. As noted at the talks, as part of the formation of a multi-vector transport system in Turkmenistan, the infrastructure of the maritime transport network is expanding, large-scale construction of new automobile, air and railway transport centers and corridors is underway. The large-scale projects on transport systems being developed in the country open up broad prospects for establishing relations with foreign partners, including well-known UAE companies. In particular, the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi, which serves as an important link in international transit and transport corridors, allows you to establish logistics chains with ports in the United Arab Emirates.

The transport potential of Turkmenistan is actively presented at various international platforms. At an online meeting recently organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Prahova of Romania, representatives of the Association "Turkmen Logistics" spoke about their activities, emphasized the growing role of Turkmenistan as a transport and logistics hub in Eurasian cargo transportation. Noting the importance of the project of the transit transport corridor "Caspian Sea - Black Sea", the meeting participants expressed their interest in further developing a dialogue between the business circles of both countries in order to increase mutually beneficial partnership and increase cargo traffic.
