Flag-lowering ceremony held as part of LLDC-3 completion

On August 8, 2025, a flag-lowering ceremony was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone with the participation of members of the official delegations of Turkmenistan and the UN to mark the completion of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

The ceremonial flag-lowering marked the official end of important events held by the United Nations and of universal significance. This international Forum has become an effective platform for consolidating global support for landlocked developing countries.

As Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov noted in his speech, during the international Conference, Avaza became a center of solidarity and cooperation, and the events held here reflected the essence of the "International Year of Peace and Trust" proclaimed by the UN.

Within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, important discussions were held, long-term projects were considered, the economic development of LLDCs was assessed and tasks for the future were defined, and most importantly, new bridges for international dialogue and partnership were built.

R. Meredov noted that Turkmenistan is proud that such a large-scale international Forum was held on the peaceful shores of the Caspian Sea, and thanked all participants of the events.

Then, at the solemn ceremony, the floor was given to the UN Under-Secretary-General, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, Secretary-General of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, Rabab Fatima.

The UN Deputy Secretary-General expressed her deep gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Government of Turkmenistan for the high level of organization and warm hospitality, noting that the Avaza National Tourist Zone has become a symbol of hope and aspiration for common sustainable development goals for LLDCs, and also emphasized that the Forum held here united the efforts of the world community for the well-being of peoples.

With the lowering of the flags, this significant international Forum concludes its work. However, for landlocked developing countries, this is the beginning of a new stage in their development. Although LLDCs have geographically limited opportunities, their economic potential is limitless. With the right cooperation, the right investment and the right support, they can prosper, grow and provide a bright future for their people, Rabab Fatima emphasized and thanked everyone for their active participation in the Conference.

Then, in a solemn atmosphere, accompanied by the performance of a military orchestra, the flags of Turkmenistan and the United Nations were lowered.
