Conference on the UN General Assembly Resolution "The Role and Importance of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development"

On May 23, 2026, a conference was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to discuss the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the Resolution "The Role and Importance of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development."

The event was attended by senior officials and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, and faculty and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The event was moderated by G. Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The conference featured speeches by Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, Aksoltan Atayeva, Head of the Department of Peace and Neutrality at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Chynar Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, Ji Shumin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Turkmenistan, Elizabeth Rood, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Turkmenistan, and Armands Pupols, Human Rights Advisor at the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.

In his speech, the head of Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry noted that the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly reaffirms the international community's support for Turkmenistan's foreign policy, emphasizing that the implementation of peace initiatives was made possible by the far-sighted policies of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero Arkadag, and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

R. Meredov emphasized a number of initiatives reflected in the resolution, including the establishment of the Academic Center for the Study of Peace, Neutrality and Preventive Diplomacy in Turkmenistan, the establishment of a Mediation Chamber for Peace in accordance with the UN Charter, and the development of Guidelines for the Observance of the Principles of Neutrality.

The resolution also calls for the advancement of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's initiative to develop a Global Security Strategy based on the principles of neutrality. Its goal is to create a just and sustainable system of international security through dialogue, mediation, respect for sovereignty, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Turkmenistan confirms its readiness to continue to actively cooperate with the international community in implementing these initiatives for the sake of peace and stability.

The presentations emphasized Turkmenistan's consistent constructive role in maintaining regional and international peace, stability, and sustainable development. Conference participants expressed confidence that Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality will continue to serve as an important factor in strengthening international cooperation and mutual understanding between countries and peoples.

At the conclusion of the conference, the participants adopted an Address to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
