Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the UN High Representative for LLDCs
On May 26, 2026, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS) Rabab Fatima.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy agency conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the UN High Representative on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
During the talks, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan, as Co-Chair of the Group of Friends of Landlocked Developing Countries, intends to continue actively promoting the interests of this category of states, strengthening international support for them, and expanding practical mechanisms of multilateral cooperation.
The parties placed special emphasis on the adoption of the Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034 and the Awaza Political Declaration as an important stage in advancing the interests of LLDC countries, as well as strengthening international cooperation for sustainable development. In this regard, the participants discussed practical mechanisms for implementing these documents.
The diplomats noted the importance of partnership in such key areas for LLDC countries as the climate agenda, sustainable energy, water diplomacy, digitalization, and the transition to a circular economy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude for the long-standing partnership with UNOHRLLS and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation.
