Meeting on the Review of International Standards and Norms for Methane Emissions Reduction
On 1 October 2026, a consultative meeting dedicated to the review of international standards and norms for methane emissions reduction was held at the Research Institute of Natural Gas in Ashgabat.
The meeting was organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan within the framework of the project “European Union for Green Development in Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action for 2024–2029”, co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by GIZ.
The meeting aimed to further develop recommendations for improving the country’s regulatory and legal framework, taking into account national development priorities in this area. Legal and technical specialists from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as well as the State Concerns “Türkmengaz” and “Türkmennebit” took part in the meeting.
During the consultative meeting, participants discussed the application of an analytical approach to reviewing Turkmenistan’s regulatory and legal framework with a view to its further development in line with recognized modern international practices, including the EU Regulation on methane emissions reduction in the energy sector.
The meeting provided a clear methodological basis for adapting best international practices to the national context of Turkmenistan.
