The RRICA project of renewal of the information about the status of wetlands in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan and sharing of positive practice of their rational use us implemented in three countries simultaneously. In addition to research component, the project provides the activities for improvement of ecological culture of the population and their awareness of aesthetic and health improving importance of lakes, water reserves and rivers.

Flooded ecological systems are quite different. Together with forests, they are important generators of the oxygen and their main values is the ability to accumulate water and improve its quality. Their common general feature is the interrelation of the main components – soil, water and biodiversity. Ramsar Convention, which was one of the first in the world practice of environmental protection, was signed in 197, having become the foundation of the activity for protection of wetland ecosystems. From the moment the Government nominates the wetlands on its territory as valuable for nature and requiring special protection and stable management, it becomes the part of the Convention and the part of nature becomes the Ramsar object.
