GIVEN MODERN REQUIREMENTS FOR AGRICULTURAL SECTOR
In the spring, onions will be planted on 1,000 hectares in the northern region of Turkmenistan. The planted area will increase by 150 hectares as compared to last year. An area of 1,000 hectares will be sown to onions in the autumn. Not less than 50,000 tons of onion crops are expected to be produced by farmers in Dashoguz Velayat this year (far more than last year). Noteworthily, onion crops (planted in large areas in the region for the first time last winter: on 500 hectares in S. A. Niyazov etrap, and on 400 hectares in Gurbansoltan-eje etrap) will be harvested this spring. Local agri-producers expect to yield good crops because they used hardy and early-maturing varieties of onion sets that are well adapted to the local soil and climatic conditions. Timely measures were also taken last year to ensure frost protection.
Massive efforts are being made in Turkmenistan to steadily increase the production of agricultural products and to saturate the consumer market with high-quality domestic food products. To meet the targets set by the state for the agricultural sector, farmers in the region seek to make the best use of land and water resources and to improve the yield of crops. They plant late autumn and inter-planted crops. Given the modern requirements for the agricultural sector, seed production and selective breeding practices have continued to develop and improve, as well.
