PREPARATIONS FOR POTATO PLANTING WELL UNDERWAY IN NORTHERN REGION

Almost one third of the total area devoted to potato production in Gurbansoltan-eje etrap, Dashoguz velayat this year will be used by private entrepreneurs with 350 hectares of farmland now allocated from the special agricultural land fund created in N. Andalyp Daikhan Association. 

This spring, potatoes will be planted on 950 hectares in this etrap alone. N. Andalyp and Şawat Daikhan Associations also specialize in the production of “earth apples”. Noteworthily, Gurbansoltan-eje etrap is the largest potato producer in the country’s northern region.  The local soil and climatic conditions allow farmers to grow and harvest potatoes twice a year. More than 1,000 hectares will be planted to potato tubers in the etrap in the autumn. 

Thanks to the state agricultural development and support policy and ongoing efforts to stimulate entrepreneurial activity, private businesses have now an increased role to play in the Dashoguz region’s agricultural sector, including potato cultivation. Hundreds of private and legal entities have been allotted plots of farmland from the Special Agricultural Land Fund with a 99-year leasehold. This year, the region plans to engage private entrepreneurs in the sector more actively.
