REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEJLIS DISCUSS THE ASPECTS OF INTER-PARLIAMENTARY DIPLOMACY

Representatives of the Mejlis took part in the five-day informational Seminar for Parliamentarians held in videoconference format by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on March 22-26.

The main areas of the IPU work, the aspects of its participation in the work of the UN General Assembly within the framework of the UN observer status were considered during the forum. Particular attention was paid to the role of parliaments in ensuring human rights and freedoms, the implementation of international humanitarian law in national legislation, the digitalization of communication services, and the strengthening of the role of the inter-parliamentary friendship group in the development of parliamentary diplomacy.

Seminar participants were familiarized with the structure of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, created in 1889, the activities of its committees, the principles of the organizational work of the IPU Assembly, the dynamics of partnership with the UN.

Upon completion of the seminar, participants underlined the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation that meets common interests.
