IOM MISSION IN TURKMENISTAN PRESENTS ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS FOR REGISTRATION OF MIGRANTS

The mission of the International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan organized an online seminar for representatives of diplomatic missions and consular services of the country abroad. This webinar completes a cycle of the regional project “Reducing the Economic Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Migrants and Communities in Central Asia and the Russian Federation”, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

During the online meeting, head of the Mission, Azat Atajanov presented electronic applications - MiRA and MigApp, designed to improve migration management and assist in movement and provision of the latest information on the situation in transit and destination countries. As a reliable toolkit, MigApp provides support in more than 180 countries around the world in eight languages.

Azat Atajanov underlined that in recent years, Turkmenistan had accumulated significant experience in combating human trafficking, which remains one of the priority areas of cooperation between the IOM and the government of Turkmenistan.

The participants got acquainted with innovative approaches to the identification of trafficking victim and the possibilities of using electronic means of communication to prevent it, as well as the role of diplomatic missions and consular offices in this matter.
