TENNIS COMPETITIONS ARE HELD IN ASHGABAT

Two tennis tournament dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat – Turkmenistan Tennis Tournament among 12 – 14 year old children as well as Championship of the country among men and women above 14 years, have started at the courts of multifunctional Ashgabat Stadium.

Around 140 sportsmen from all over Turkmenistan participate in the competitions. It is worth to mention that in addition to singles, the medals in doubles will be also contested among boys.

Ball boys and line referees work at local competitions under preparation to the qualification round of the Davis Cup Tennis International Tournament.

Ball boys are young assistants of big sport, who give balls and towels to players between the sets during tennis game. It is an advantage to be a ball boy. They have opportunity to watch the game of professionals, not only their technical skills but also a tactics and their psychological resilience. They also can feel the atmosphere of the competitions from inside. It is worth to mention that nay titled tennis players started their way to big sports as ball boys.

Turkmenistan Tennis Federation trains ball boys in Ashgabat and the regions for the Davis Cup – one of the biggest international team competitions in men’s tennis. Every week, specialists of the Federation conduct theoretical and practical lessons, explain in details the features of work of ball boys on the court. Secretary General of Turkmenistan Tennis Federation Eziz Dovletov, Coach Evgeniy Molchanov as well as Igor Zubkov conducts the lessons in Ashgabat. Referee of National Category Andrey Dovmatov teaches ball boys in Mary.

The results of Turkmenistan’s tennis tournament and championship will be summed up on May 23.
