Gazprom has stopped the review of the project of construction of gas pipeline to India due to the cost of route, Head of Gazprom Export Elena Burmistrova said, the Kommersant Newspaper informs.

“As of today, we do not consider the construction of gas pipeline to India. Indeed, there were talks about it few years ago, in particularly, it was proposed by India, but as you understand, this is far too capital-intensive route. There is so-called ‘flexible pipeline’ for supplies to India, which was used to supply 1.8 million tons of LNG to India in 2020”, - Burmistrova said during press conference. The Kemmersant Newspaper reminds that there are two perspective gas lines to India – Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India (TAPI) and Iran – Pakistan – India. The last project was put on hold after USA sanctions against Iran in 2019. Russian – Pakistani project of North – South gas pipeline, which is planned to be renamed as Pakistan Stream, may take the gas from TAPI.
