WINNERS OF ASHGABAT OPEN BLITZ TOURNAMENT ARE DEFINED

Online Ashgabat Open Blitz Tournament, which was organized by Chess Federation of Turkmenistan on occasion of the 140th anniversary of Turkmen capital, has been accomplished in the Chess and Checkers School. 140 chess players including from the regions as well as fellow countrymen from Turkey, Russia, Belarus and UAE participated in the tournament online. Winners of number of representative international competitions were among the contesters.

According to the rules of the competitions, the participants were divided into four groups taking into account age category.

5th grade student of Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport Saparmurat Atabayev was leading in men’s competitions. Five years ago, this 21- year old talented chess player has won gold at the world championship among 17-year old juniors, which was held in Sochi, Russian Federation.

Silver of the candidate of Master of Sports Kurbangeldy Amangeldiyev, who left behind international master Meylis Annaberdiyev (3rd place) gross master Maksat Atabayev, was a real surprise of the championship.

Student of sport institute Jemal Ovezdurdiyeva, three-time champion of Turkmenistan, Master of FIDE, bronze winner of 2018 Asian Championship among 20-year old women, won gold in women’s tournament.

International gross master Myahri Geldiyeva and first grade holder Ogulsuray Bayrambayeva have gained equal points. However, according to additional results, Myahri Geldiyeva has won silver. Her opponent Oglsuray – is a student of Ashgabat’s school no. 16, 2019 first women’s league champion and 2020 champion of Turkmenistan among 18-year old women.

Amanmuhammet Hommadov and Enesh Arazmamedova were the winners in the 16-year old age category.

The winners of the tournament were awarded with valuable prizes of the capital’s administration and certificates of the General Department of Sports and Youth Affairs of Ashgabat. 68-year old Murat Yakubov, as the eldest participants, 5-year old Sohbet Agamammedov, as the youngest participant (both from Dashoguz Region) as well as Aydogdy Atabayev, Honored Coach of Turkmenistan, FIDE referee, Master of Sports, who demonstrated the best result among sportsmen with limited capabilities, received special prizes of the competitions.
