TURKMEN WEIGHTLIFTERS TO COMPETE FOR THE MEDALS AT JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN TASHKENT

Five sportsmen will represent Turkmenistan at the World Junior Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, which was started on May 23. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs informed about this to our correspondent.
Bektimur Reyimov (weight category up to 67 kg) will be the first to enter the podium from our team. Further, Makstan Meredov, Gaygysyz Tarayev (both up to 73 kg), Sherzad Rusambayev (up to 89 kg) and Atajan Dayiyev (above 109 kg) will join him in the contest for the medals.
It is expected that 244 athletes from 53 countries will participate in the junior world championship. These competitions are qualification competitions for the Olympic Games, which will be held in Tokyo on July 23 – August 8, 2021.
The world junior championship was not held last year due to COVID-19 pandemics. That is why, International Weightlifting Federation allowed sportsmen of 2000 year of birth to participate in the competitions. It gives a chance to student of Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Maksat Meredov to contest for the right to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
This 21-year old promising athlete of the school of highest sport skills of Turkmenistan made speak of himself two years ago when he won bronze medal at the world junior tournament in Suva (The Republic of Fiji). Last month, the athlete of the General Coach of Turkmenistan National Team Artur Emiryan has won two silver medals in clean and jerk and in total of two disciplines in the weight category up to 73 kg with personal record of 336 kg (147 kg in snatch and 189 kg in clean and jerk).
According to specialists, Maksat Meredov has to demonstrate the highest results and gain missing points at the junior world championship to be qualified to participate in the Olympics in Tokyo. So far, Kristina Shermetova (up to 55 kg) among women, Rejepbay Rejepov (up to 81 kg) and Hojamuhammet Toychiyev (above 109 kg) among men have the best chances to participate in the Olympic Games among Turkmenistan Olympic Team.
