THE HEAD OF STATE LAUNCHED THE COMMISSIONING OF THE FIRST STAGE OF THE RING POWER SYSTEM
On October 23, using a digital system President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the solemn ceremony of commissioning a new Akhal-Balkan high-voltage double-chain overhead power transmission line.
In order to successfully implement the energy policy pursued by the Turkmen leader, the Ministry of Energy is successfully realizing important projects of national and international importance. Thanks to the special attention of the head of state and the huge investments committed in the development of the industry in recent years, the production capacity of the domestic electric power industry has increased many times, which allows not only to fully meet the domestic needs of the country, but also to increase the volume of exports of Turkmen electricity abroad.
According to the plan of the Turkmen leader, who is the ideological inspirer of the grandiose achievements of the epoch of power and happiness, the existing power systems being updated and put into operation, which initially have multiple reserves of power, taking into account the further dynamic development of all regions, will be “looped” into a single system in the foreseeable future, which will allow, if necessary, redistribute electricity in the right direction and ensure optimal operation of the country’s power grids.
Today, the first stage of this large-scale work has been completed – a new high-voltage overhead transmission line is being put into operation, connecting the Akhal and Balkan velayats. It is noteworthy that all the work on laying a high-voltage power transmission line along this route was carried out by domestic power builders who have accumulated extensive work experience over the years of state independence.
In order to implement this large-scale project, in accordance with the Resolutions of the Head of State adopted in January 2020 and 2021, the Turkmenenergo State Electric Power Corporation of the Ministry of Energy, having concluded relevant contracts with foreign companies, purchased the necessary equipment, materials and vehicles at the expense of long-term credit funds of the Asian Development Bank.
The ring structure will enable mutual redundancy between the power systems of the velayats and Ashgabat. Thus, power engineers will be able to repair and modernize power units, electrical substations, and power transmission lines without prejudice to consumers. All this will make it possible not only to provide stable electricity to local consumers – cities and villages of the country, as well as large industrial complexes and numerous social facilities put into operation annually, but also to export its surplus abroad – primarily to neighboring states.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov uses the digital system to communicate directly with Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers S.Berdimuhamedov, who is located in the Control Center of the Avaza State Power Plant, and Ch.Purchekov, located in the Control Center of the Derweze State Power Plant.
Specialists of the energy industry, gathered on this significant occasion at the Derveze and Avaza Hydroelectric Power Plants, also take part in the celebration via a teleconference.
All the participants of the festivity listened with great attention and enthusiasm to the opening speech of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Addressing the hardworking workers of the electric power industry and all compatriots through the digital system, the head of Turkmenistan noted that today, immediately after the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the sacred independence, we are witnessing another historical event.
– A new Akhal-Balkan Power Transmission Line is being put into operation in a solemn atmosphere, which is the first stage of the project to create a ring energy system in the country, said the nation’s leader, sincerely congratulating the power engineers and the entire native people on this joyful event.
In order to redistribute these capacities between the velayats and ensure the normal operation of the energy system, we have set ourselves the task of creating a ring energy system in the country, the head of state continued.
It was noted that power transmission lines are currently operating between Ashgabat, Mary, Lebap, Dashoguz, which connect the energy systems of these regions. The implementation of the ring energy system project along the routes from east to north from Ashgabat, Akhal-Balkan and Balkan-Dashoguz will make it possible to create a unified energy system of Turkmenistan.
– Having created reserves of energy resources, we will achieve reliability of electricity supply to consumers. By continuing construction and installation work on the Balkan-Dashoguz route in the future, we will complete the work on combining the power system into a single ring. Thus, in all weather conditions, all regions of the country will be reliably and uninterrupted provided with electricity, highlighted the President of Turkmenistan.
Speaking about future plans, the head of state noted that modernization of the existing Ashgabat-Mary power transmission line is also envisaged.
– I am sure that Turkmen power engineers, sparing no skills and abilities in implementing this important task, will successfully implement projects important for the people and the country, said the national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, whose words were met with stormy applause.
Then the nation’s leader gave his blessing for the commissioning of the first stage of the ring power system.
There comes an exciting moment when the power line is put into operation. Simultaneous pressing of the button from the Akhal and Balkan velayats gives the start of a new power transmission line connected to the unified energy system of Turkmenistan.

Then the floor was given to the specialists who took part in the implementation of the project for the construction of a high-voltage overhead power transmission line of Akhal-Balkan, who told about the construction and installation works carried out, about the equipment and mechanisms used in construction, as well as the importance of this largest project, carried out on the initiative of the national leader.
On behalf of the specialists of the Akhal Velayat division of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, who gathered at the Control Center of the Derveze HPP, electrician B.Charyev expressed his deep gratitude to the leader of the nation, who gave his blessing to the start of the new power line.
On behalf of the power engineers, B. Charyev expressed gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for creating all the necessary conditions for the implementation of this extremely important project for the country and the people.
Then the floor was given to specialist A.Mammetgylyjov, who, on behalf of the employees of the Balkan velayat branch of the Department of the Ministry of Energy located in the Control Center of the Avaza HPP, also thanked the head of state for the construction of a high-voltage transmission line, the opening of which was an important event in the history of the domestic electric power industry.
The speaker was proud to note that in the implementation of this most important project of international importance, along with specialists of power-building enterprises of other provinces, specialists of the Balkan province also took an active part.
Expressing great gratitude on behalf of the employees of the electric power industry for the tireless care and active assistance in the construction of the high-voltage power transmission line Akhal-Balkan, A. Mammetgylyjov wished the head of Turkmenistan sound health, long life and success in work for the prosperity of the country, happiness and well-being of the Turkmen people.
At the end of the current celebration, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov once again congratulated the power engineers and all Turkmen citizens on the commissioning of the new Akhal-Balkan power transmission line, which is the first stage of the creation of a ring energy system in the country, and wished everyone good health, family well-being, great success in the fruitful implementation of the energy policy of the independent neutral Motherland.
