WEBINAR ON LEARNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE “GREEN” STANDARDS

A webinar "Review of the current practices of using “green” hotel standards in Avaza" was held by the UNDP country office within the framework of the joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza.”

The representatives of the ministries, institutions and higher educational institutions participated in the event, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Construction and Architecture, the Ministry of Education and the Khyakimliks of Ashgabat and Turkmenbashi cities and Avaza etrap, as well as the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan (Mary) and the Turkmen Architectural and Construction Institute.

The webinar participants learned the international “green” building standards and municipal government, and discussed the possibility of developing national “green” standards, which will allow to implement the efficient use of energy, water and proper waste management in the country’s hotels, in particular in Avaza’z hotels.

This seminar is one of the series of events of the project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza”, which will complete in March next year. It is aimed at promotion the sustainable urban development in the Turkmen capital and the sustainable Tourism Infrastructure and Management Practices in the rapidly advancing resort zone Awaza on the Caspian Sea. The project provides the technical, institutional and strategic support, and promotes change of attitude to the efficient use and proper waste management, covering Ashgabat and Avaza, and creates a basis for the scaling of the obtained positive results in other cities of Turkmenistan.
