FRAMEWORK PROGRAM FOR COOPERATION OF TURKMENISTAN AND FAO FOR 2021–2025 WAS SIGNED

The package of documents, signed on completion of the ceremonial plenary session of the International Conference "Peace and Trust Policy – Basis of International Security, Stability and Development", includes two important documents testifying an increase of the system interaction of Turkmenistan with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). These are the Framework Program for cooperation in Turkmenistan for 2021–2025 between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on joint realization of the «Improving efficiency of small ruminants production for reduction of the greenhouse gas emission intensity» project.

The priority areas of cooperation of Turkmenistan with FAO were discussed in detail at the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov with Viorel Gutsu, Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, arrived in Turkmenistan for participation in the above International Conference. The parties exchanged views on joint activity, including projects and programs to promote agricultural development and food security. The project agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the FAO on the opening of the FAO office in the country was also discussed.

This issue, like complex of proposals on the activization of interaction with FAO in such sectors as the sustainable development of agriculture, food security and environment protection, were discussed in detail on 16 November, 2021 at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. In particular, it was stated that today, five regional projects are implemented in our country together with this organization, the advanced technologies, innovative solutions and modern scientific approaches are introduced, meeting the Goals of sustainable development.

It was noted the perspective of cooperation in the field of cotton growing – one of the leading branches of agro-industrial complex and the national economy. For this purpose, it is proposed a joint realization of the project aimed at the further development of the branch through improvement of the production technologies and increasing the mechanized gathering of raw cotton, promotion of the scientific-research works, including in selection area, and digitalization. Besides, it was emphasized, that in the light of the modern realities one of the key vectors of partnership is the ecology and environment protection, where a special importance has issues related to the change of climate in the regional and global context.
