The modern airport in Kerki with a capacity of 100 passengers per hour went into operation in June 2021. Kerki International Airport was presented with the official ICAO document on the assignment of the four-letter location code UTAE and the Certificate of Conformity to International Standards issued by Munich International Airport. This Certificate of Conformity, issued by Munich International Airport, in accordance with Annex 14 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention, 1944), confirms that all airport parameters related to planning and design, requirements for their physical characteristics, operation and maintenance of aerodromes, as well as the used landing, navigation, meteorological, light-signaling and other necessary systems comply with international norms and standards.

The new airport, commissioned in the year of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Motherland, should become an important link in the formation of a modern transport and transit infrastructure, create conditions for bringing economic and trade cooperation between Asia and Europe to a qualitatively new level, and open up huge opportunities for optimization regional and international traffic flows. Currently, within the framework of the National Program for the Development of Civil Aviation of Turkmenistan for 2012–2030, practical steps are being taken to improve the quality of passenger service, ensure flight safety, and apply best practices at airports.

Turkmenistan is becoming the most important transport hub in the region, turning into a large international logistics center. These intentions are consistently being implemented thanks to the favorable geographic location and transport policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who puts forward current initiatives and takes practical steps to promote them.
