TURKMENISTAN ORDERED A NEW BATCH OF RAILWAY EQUIPMENT FROM RUSSIA

The list of requests from foreign companies to import products from the Russian Federation, published by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade in early February, includes large orders from the railway agency of Turkmenistan «Türkmendemirýollary». These are 300 covered railway carriages, 100 of which are covered with wood; 300 gondola cars; 50 platform units; 1000 units of tanks for transportation of oil products and 300 units of fitting flatcars for transportation of containers.

Last autumn, the Russian JSC «Transmashholding», in accordance with previously concluded contracts, delivered to the «Türkmendemirýollary» Agency a passenger diesel locomotive TEP70BS and a main freight diesel locomotive 2TE25KM, which were sent to the locomotive depot of Ashgabat.

New orders for Russian freight cars testify to the increase in the transport potential of Turkmenistan and the growth of freight traffic through the country. As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted at a government meeting held on January 28, in 2021 the volume of transit cargo through the territory of Turkmenistan increased by 3.5 times. Using its advantageous geographical position, Turkmenistan seeks to become a major transport and logistics hub in Eurasia. The country pays great attention to the comprehensive development and modernization of the railway infrastructure, the purchase of new equipment, international cooperation in the creation and efficient use of international transit and transport corridors.
