THE LEGENDARY BAY WILL BE CONNECTED BY A NEW BRIDGE

The Ukrainian construction company Altkom will start building a new bridge across the strait connecting the legendary Kara-Bogaz-Gol Bay with the Caspian Sea. According to the signed documents, the construction of a bridge on the highway from Turkmenbashi to the border with Kazakhstan will begin in July 2022 and will be fully completed in June 2024. According to the project developed by the specialists of the design institute of the State Concern "Turkmenavtoyollary" ("Turkmenavtodorogi"), this will be a structure 354 meters long, 17 meters wide and seven meters high above the surface of the bay, which will provide four-lane traffic (two lanes in each direction) in towards the Kazakh border. In addition, the company will have to equip two thousand meters of access roads.

The new engineering structure will be built on the site of the old one, with two-pole traffic, which can no longer cope with the increased traffic loads. The spans of the new bridge will be made of metal structures 110 and 64 meters long, as well as reinforced concrete beams, which should provide a high load capacity and stability of the structure. The bridge will be equipped with pedestrian zones two meters wide with artificial lighting and fencing.

The bridge will become an important structure on the international transport route Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan. It is part of the logistics system being built in the West of Turkmenistan. A highway will pass through it, which will become a continuation of the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi multimodal highway and will connect Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, which will make it possible to increase the traffic flow and the volume of trade between the two countries.
