Meetings with the heads of foreign ministries of the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Portugal and the Republic of the Philippines were held

On 28 September 2024, a meeting was held on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, between the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania Igli Hasani.

At the meeting, the sides considered opportunities for enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.  The viability of strengthening cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries was noted. The importance of regular dialogue through accreditation of Ambassadors and holding political consultations was emphasized.

In the course of the meeting the sides also touched upon the expansion of trade and industrial cooperation, tourism, attraction of investments and establishment of contacts between the business circles of the two countries.

The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the development of joint documents to promote interstate cooperation in various spheres.

During the day continued, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov also met with the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Paulo Rangel.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed the current level and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation.  The effective collaboration within the framework of international structures, primarily the UN was highlighted.

The parties expressed interest in establishing ties on water resources management, digitalization, science, culture and education.

The participants of the meeting also discussed opportunities for taking part in events held in Turkmenistan and Portugal.

On the same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Philippines Enrique Manalo discussed present issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The sides expressed mutual interest in further strengthening relations and expanding partnership in various spheres.

Special accent was made on the intensification of political dialogue. The importance of holding regular political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers was emphasized. The possibilities of strengthening cooperation in economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres were considered.

One of the main topics discussed at the meeting was the initiative of the Turkmen side on the establishment of a new format of collaboration between the countries of Central Asia and ASEAN. Turkmenistan has proposed to develop a mechanism of dialogue “Central Asia – ASEAN”, which would enable the expansion of cooperation in trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
