Issues of development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations were discussed

On 26-27 January 2025, a Turkmen delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov paid a visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the visit, political consultations were held at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In consultations, the development of political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries was discussed, and the importance of regular contacts at the highest level was noted.

The important role of parliamentary diplomacy in the progressive development of Turkmen-Uzbek relations was emphasized.

Close cooperation within regional and international structures, in particular the UN, was noted.

The parties noted the significance of holding political consultations at the beginning of 2025, declared upon the initiative of Turkmenistan as the International Year of Peace and Trust by the Resolution of the UN General Assembly.

Particular emphasis was placed on intensifying cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is a solid potential for joint work. In this regard, the importance of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation and other mechanisms of cooperation was noted.

Also during the meeting, issues of deepening cooperation in the transport and logistics, energy, water and industrial sectors were discussed.

The sides also discussed significant aspects of cultural and humanitarian relations. In this context important role of holding Cultural days to strengthen cultural connections between two brotherly countries was emphasized. The effectiveness of contacts in science, education, and cinematography was noted.

At the end of consultations signing ceremony was held by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov and Uzbekistan B.Saidov of the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2025-2026 years and Protocol on inventory and improvement of the legal framework of the turkmen-uzbek relations.

Within the programme of the visit of the Turkmen delegation the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, who is currently on a visit to Tashkent.

At the beginning of the conversation, the head of the foreign affairs agency conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan greetings from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

It was emphasized that the relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have reached a qualitatively new level, having acquiring the character of a strategic partnership. High-level contacts play a decisive role in intensifying interaction between the two countries.

During the conversation, topical issues of further development of Turkmen-Uzbek bilateral cooperation in priority areas of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian formats were discussed.

The sides also exchanged views on topical regional and international agenda, including in the context of forthcoming top-level events in bilateral and multilateral formats.

In addition, as part of the visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov and the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Foreign Policy Issues Honorary Elder of Turkmenistan A.Kamilov, during which the key areas of partnership between the two countries were discussed.
