Meeting of the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Italian Republic

As previously said, on October 24, 2025, the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Italian Republic began.

At the Leonardo da Vinci – Fiumicino Airport in Rome, the head of state was warmly welcomed by officials of the Italian Republic, as well as members of the official delegation of Turkmenistan.

The guard of honor lined up along the carpeted pathway leading from the aircraft stair. In accordance with the established tradition of hospitality, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was presented with a bouquet of flowers.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov then proceeded to the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) memorial complex.

There, the head of state was met by the Minister of Defense of the Italian Republic Guido Crosetto and other officials.

The officer of the Ministry of Defense of the Italian Republic announced the start of the ceremony to welcome the President of Turkmenistan. The national anthems of the two countries were performed.

The officer of the Ministry of Defense of Italy reported on the readiness of the Guard of Honor on the occasion of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid tribute to the national flag of the Italian Republic and laid a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Altare della Patria memorial.

Then, the Minister of Defense of Italy introduced the members of Italy’s high-level military delegation to the President of Turkmenistan. At the end of the ceremony, the national anthems of both countries were performed.

The tribute of the head of state to the heroes who lost their lives for the freedom and independence of the Italian Republic is a vivid sign of the deep respect of the people of Turkmenistan for history and national values of the friendly country.

On the same day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.

The meeting began with an official ceremony to welcome the President of Turkmenistan.

On the square in front of the Quirinale Palace, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was warmly welcomed by President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.

The commander of the Guard of Honor announced the start of the official welcoming ceremony for the President of Turkmenistan. The national anthems of the two countries were performed, and a report was given on the readiness of the Guard of Honor on the occasion of the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Italian Republic.

The heads of the two states paid tribute to the national flag of the Italian Republic.

The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Italy entered the palace and reciprocally introducing to each other the members of the official delegations of two countries. Then a photo session took place.

Then bilateral talks between the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella were held.

Warmly welcoming the distinguished Turkmen guest, the President of Italy emphasized that his country highly values constructive cooperation with Turkmenistan based on the principles of mutual respect.

Thanking for the invitation to visit the Italian Republic on an official visit and for the hospitality, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the current bilateral meeting would make a significant contribution to the further development of inter-state partnership.

The President of Turkmenistan conveyed warm greetings of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the head of the Italian Republic. It was noted that Hero-Arkadag warmly recalls his visits to Italy as head of state and his meetings with President Sergio Mattarella.

Thanking his counterpart for the kind words and extending his best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the President of the Italian Republic noted the high level of interstate relations that are in the mutual interests of both countries.

Emphasizing that the two countries successfully cooperate in the international arena, demonstrating their commitment to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his gratitude to Italy for its unwavering support of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality status, which has been confirmed three times by UN General Assembly resolutions.

“We highly appreciate the eagerness of the Italian Republic to develop close cooperation with Turkmenistan. In turn, we are interested in expanding our partnership with Italy, both on a bilateral and multilateral basis,” said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

In this context, the importance of the first Central Asia-Italy Summit held in April of current year was noted.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that this year Turkmenistan is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality, in honor of which an International Forum will be held in Ashgabat on December 12, and invited President Sergio Mattarella to participate in it.

Thanking for the invitation, President Sergio Mattarella noted that Italy highly appraises the important role of Turkmenistan in strengthening regional peace and stability.

At the end of the bilateral meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Sergio Mattarella reaffirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan and the Italian Republic to the steady development of mutually beneficial cooperation on a wide range of fields and exchanged best wishes to each other and the friendly peoples of two countries.
