PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN AND PRESIDENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION DISCUSS PRIORITIES OF DIALOGUE AND THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS OVER A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION

The President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Russian Federation had a telephone conversation.

Cordially greeting each other, the heads of the two states expressed satisfaction with the invariably friendly character of the Turkmen-Russian relations, built on the principles of mutual respect, constructiveness and strategic partnership.

Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin cordially congratulated each other on the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the WWII, addressing the wishes of prosperity and wellbeing to the peoples of Turkmenistan and Russia. It was emphasized that this day would forever remain for the peoples of Turkmenistan and Russia as a symbol of enduring brotherhood, unity and the highest sacrifice in the name of a common sacred goal - the liberation of mankind from Nazism.

According to the Turkmen leader, on May 9, our country festively celebrated this anniversary, paying tribute to the valor and courage of those who did not return home from the war, to veterans, home front workers. It is significant that the delegation of the Russian Federation headed by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, Colonel General Alexander Fomin, took part in the festivities.

In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked his Russian counterpart for sending the high-level delegation to Turkmenistan, as well as for the decision to hand over the Colours of 748 rifle regiment of 206 rifle division of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, where Turkmen leader’s grandfather Berdymuhamed Annaev fought.

The leaders of the two states exchanged views on a number of relevant aspects of the regional and global agenda of mutual interest. In this context, the topic of combating the coronavirus pandemic, which has become a challenge for the entire world community, was raised. At the same time, it was emphasized that from the first days of the outbreak of coronavirus infection, Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation have actively cooperated, demonstrating solidarity and mutual support.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the RF President for test systems supplied to our country. In turn, the President of Turkmenistan underlined that our country was ready to provide all necessary support to the Russian Federation.

It was noted that the relevant departments of the two countries developed the legal framework for close cooperation in this direction, including the preparation of relevant documents on cooperation in such areas as the fight against infectious diseases and the implementation of international medical and sanitary rules.

This is a clear confirmation of the solidarity of our doctors, as well as an effective contribution to consolidating efforts in the fight against dangerous infections and, in general, to strengthening effective partnership in healthcare sphere in the CIS format.

In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested instructing the relevant government agencies of Turkmenistan and Russia to develop a joint comprehensive programme to counter the pandemic, which would reflect the experience accumulated by the both countries, as well as the forms and models of further cooperation.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Vladimir Putin discussed priority issues of the interstate trade and economic partnership, which occupies an important place on the agenda of the Turkmen-Russian dialogue.

The close contacts between Turkmenistan and the largest regions and constituent entities of the Russian Federation dynamically develop. It was underlined the importance to develop the ferry service between the port of Turkmenbashi and the Russian ports of Astrakhan and Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea.

Reaffirming the mutual willingness for multifaceted cooperation, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin expressed best wishes to each other, as well as to war veterans and fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.
