TRAVELING ALONG THE SILK ROAD: VIEWS OUT OF A TRAIN WINDOW

The specialized Orient Silk Road Express train has arrived in Ashgabat with travelers on board making a journey through the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan railway corridor, along caravan routes that used to link China and Central Asia in ancient and medieval times.

‘The Silk Road Journey Out of a Train Window’ is an international project. Taking part in the project, Turkmen tour operators offer foreign tourists the opportunity to visit our country’s unique historical and cultural monuments listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.

The travelers also get to know modern-day Turkmenistan and its achievements, and are treated to it architectural ensembles, park areas, fountain complexes, Ashgabat’s theaters and museums and its attractions, which have earned spots in the Guinness World Records.

Six special trains with tourists from the USA, Australia, Europe and East Asia have arrived in Ashgabat this year.

UK’s tour operator, Golden Eagle Luxury Trains, and Turkmenistan’s Ayan Travel Company have established successful cooperation running tours on board the Russian train, The Golden Eagle. In October, its passengers went sightseeing in Ashgabat, visited the GaragumÝalkymy Crater, traveled to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and then to the Russian Federation via Dashoguz and Urgench.

The travelers will remember the rail journeys along the route of the Silk Road, whose heart, using the metaphorical expression of the head of state, was Turkmenistan, thanks to the breathtaking scenery, a marked contrast in the landscape and weather conditions, the unique historical-cultural landmarks and natural wonders, distinctively Turkmen traditions and customs, the warmth, hospitality and openness of the locals.
