A PAINTERLY ODE TO THE TURKMEN CAPITAL

An exhibition of works by Turkmen artists is currently on view at the Museum of Fine Arts to celebrate Ashgabat City Day. The people of Turkmenistan dearly love their capital city, which impresses with its new sprawling residential neighborhoods, exquisitely beautiful architectural landmarks while turning into an innovative megapolis.

Builders, designers, landscape gardeners and residents make every effort to beautify the country’s capital, which wins admiration for its clean streets, originally-designed green zones, well-planned and perfectly balanced urban environment.

The exhibition opens with Mered Saparmamedov’s painting ‘New Buildings’ that symbolically represents the capital’s fast-paced development. Inga Pavlotskaya’s ‘A University Building Project’ continues the theme of the urban development program. …The laconic cityscape, outlines of new buildings with dome-shaped roofs and starkly silhouetted hoisting cranes, reminiscent of long-legged cranes – this is how the artist interprets the modern city’s rapid growth.

Stanislav Babikov’s ‘My Ashgabat’ triggers lyrical and nostalgic memories in elderly visitors, who spend a long time taking a close look at the painting that reflects the slow pace of life and gives viewers a sense of bygone era.

Baky Sadykov’s painting accentuates the charm and beauty of Ashgabat’s dazzling night lights. Tachjemal Gylychdurdyeva’s ‘The White City of Ashgabat’ is the dramatic climax of the painterly ode to the Turkmen capital. It features a bird’s eye panoramic view of Ashgabat, the city that has become a symbol of large-scale transformations and where traditions and innovations, classical and modern architecture blend in a harmonious whole.
