IN COMMEMORATION OF KURBANNAZAR EZIZOV: SPRING INSPIRATION

The outstanding Turkmen poet Kurbannazar Ezizov (1940-1975) was born on March 1, the first day of spring, when new life bursts forth from tree buds and tender blossoms conjure up vivid painterly images. A series of events were held across the country throughout 2020 to mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of the poet loved by many generations…

“Behind the mountain the sun is sinking,

Like silver the white moon is glistening,

Tired and weary,

Serdar is sleeping peacefully, peacefully …”

Today, these wonderful lines from the poet’s poem “A Lullaby” fitted perfectly with a short drama production staged by senior students of three Ashgabat schools - No. 21, 132 and 134. The Bazar Amanov State Children’s Library organized an event entitled “The Poet and Nature” to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the poet’s birth. Students of the above-mentioned schools participated in it.

The schoolchildren recited poems by Kurbannazar Ezizov devoted to the native country’s nature: “The Boy and the Sea”, “My Land”, “A Lullaby”, and others. The event also featured short plays performed by the students, celebrating the unique natural beauty of Turkmen land.

The Library’s specialists Leila Annamuradova and Merjen Karaberdyeva told the children about interesting facts about the poet and his life. They young poetry lovers learned about the story behind Kurbannazar Ezizov’s “A Lullaby”, which had been recited earlier. …The poet, who had four daughters, had always dreamed of having a son and he dedicated the lyrics to his then-yet-unborn son. His son, Serdar, was born a few weeks after his death.

The boys and girls, who got acquainted with Kurbannazar Ezizov’s poetry, will, for certain, become the poet’s devoted fans admiring his extraordinary talent, will be inspired by verses like him, will be eager to learn about rich national culture, and will discover the treasure trove of Turkmen literature.
