UZBEKISTAN HOPES FOR FACE-TO-FACE SUMMIT OF THE HEADS OF THE CENTRAL ASIAN COUNTRIES

According to the news agency “Sputnik Uzbekistan”, Press Secretary, Deputy Head of Administration of the President of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov underlined that the Uzbek authorities expected the third consultative meeting of the heads of Central Asian states to be held in face-to-face format.
Initially, the third consultative meeting of the heads of Central Asian states was scheduled to be held in Bishkek in August 2020, then the summit was postponed until autumn, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was postponed for this year. Later, Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov said that the summit could be held in Turkmenistan in 2021.
“Work in this direction continues. The most important thing is that we are working to ensure that this meeting takes place in face-to-face format. The online format is not considered,” Asadov said at a briefing on Monday, answering a question about the possible date of the third meeting.
He noted that due to the pandemic it was not possible today to identify the place and date of the next summit.
“We, together with our partners, have been preparing for the next meeting for a year already,” Asadov said.
According to him, a solid package of documents is prepared for signing during the meeting.
