INVOLVING YOUTH IN GLOBAL ACTION

The World Conference on Youth Rights «Involving Youth in Global Action» has started in Tashkent today. The forum is held in a hybrid format. Over 500 representatives from more than 30 countries and international organizations take part in it.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev sent greetings to the organizers and participants of the forum, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reported.

It, in particular, notes the active activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights and the international initiatives put forward by the country concerning youth. This is confirmed by the holding of the current forum aimed at developing a global discussion on the role of the young generation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Sergei Lebedev noted that among the most important documents of the CIS that ensure the rights of citizens, including young people, are the Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms, the Strategy "Health of the Population of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States", the Concept for the Development of Education, the Convention on the legal status of migrant workers and members of their families.

The message emphasizes that the Concept for the Further Development of the CIS, updated in 2020, also aims to create favorable conditions for education, professional, scientific and creative growth of youth as the most reliable investment in the progress and modernization of society. It is envisaged to create diversified mechanisms aimed at involving young citizens in the implementation of projects and programs for sustainable development in all areas of interstate relations. In particular, it is planned to include representatives of public youth associations, along with the heads of state governing bodies in charge of youth policy, in the Council for Youth Affairs of the CIS member states.

Sergey Lebedev wished the participants of the conference peace and health, fruitful discussions, mutual understanding and constructive cooperation.

Let us remind you that the World Conference “Engaging Youth in Global Action” is being held on August 12-13 in Uzbekistan. The conference participants will consider issues of improving international mechanisms for the protection and promotion of youth rights. It is planned to discuss the topics of youth involvement in the development of their countries during the coronavirus pandemic, to study the measures taken around the world to support young people in access to quality education and productive employment. Participants will also discuss how to improve existing international mechanisms to protect and promote the rights of youth.
