SCIENCE TO HELP PRACTICE
Not so long ago, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in order to further enrich the beautiful nature of the country, as well as the successful implementation of the National Forest Program, signed a resolution instructing the ministries, sectoral departments and the Ashgabat hakimlik to ensure planting this year of three million (deciduous, coniferous, fruit trees, grapes) seedlings.
Planting trees has become a good tradition in our country. Every year, millions of seedlings are planted in Turkmenistan, which transform the republic, change its appearance, and contribute to the improvement of the ecological situation in the country. The scientists of Turkmenistan do not remain aside from this important state affair, providing real advice and recommendations to the agrarians.
This time, the editors of the «Golden Age» turned to the candidate of biological sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan Olga Valerievna Arzyamova with a request to give useful, necessary advice and recommendations to those who will carry out what the government wants.
- At present, - says Olga Valerievna, - we have accumulated considerable experience, developed agro-techniques for cultivating a large number of ornamental trees, shrubs and flowers offered for landscaping. It is advisable for agrarians to use this information, since plants offered for urban and other landscaping must meet a number of requirements.
In addition to external appeal, they must comply with controlled forms, growth rate, disease resistance. When choosing seedlings, it is necessary to take into account the duration of daylight hours, air temperature and humidity, wind speed, the presence and depth of groundwater, and soil types. It is necessary to take into account the status of landing sites - squares, streets, desert areas. It is preferable to use seedlings adapted to our climate.
When planting, special attention should be paid to watering. In the summer, daily watering is required. To reduce possible losses, it is recommended to use planting material in flowerpots that move entirely into the soil with subsequent planting in the ground at the optimum time. Subsequently, pruning of trees should be done during the growing season, when dead wood is visible. It should be remembered that improper pruning weakens trees, as a result of which they are affected by pests.
Agrarians should also remember about the orderly planting of seedlings, which will contribute to their normal development. It will not be superfluous to conduct explanatory and educational work among the population and workers directly involved in planting seedlings. Such an approach, I think, should be carried out by archinliks and hakimliks of cities and etraps of the country.
