TURKMEN GRANDMASTER TOOK SECOND PLACE AT THE INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT IN ANKARA

Grandmaster from Turkmenistan Meilis Annaberdyev won silver at the 5th International Open Chess Tournament of Bashkent University, which was held in Ankara. The traditional tournament, jointly organized by the Turkish Chess Federation and Bashkent University, brought together about 600 athletes from 7 countries and 44 provinces of Turkey, who participated in 6 different categories.

The leader in the strongest category A with a convincing result - 8 points out of 9 possible - was Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Rasulov (FIDE rating 2458). He was followed by Meylis Annaberdyev with 6.5 points (current FIDE rating 2484). The young Turkish FIDE master from Izmir, Umut Gunduz, who took 3rd place, was behind Meilis in additional indicators with 6.5 points. Another Turkmen chess player, international master Saparmurat Atabayev (rating 2447), who scored 6 points, was one step away from the top three.

It should also be noted that our other compatriot Khanjar Odeev (rating 2287) with 5 points won the prize for the best result among chess players over 50 years old.

Rector of Bashkent University, Professor Khaldun Muderrisoglu and President of the Turkish Chess Federation Gülkiz Tulay personally attended the award ceremony of the significant tournament.

The total prize fund of the tournament was 75,000 Turkish faces (4,300 USD).
