Specialists of the Botanical Garden TAU named after S.A. Niyazov, thanks to phenological observation, noted the vegetation of many endemic plants of Turkmenistan: Regel's eremurus, Kopetdag wolfberry, Bunge rose, saxaul, cone-bearing ephedra and flowering of tulips on a sandy geographical area.

Natural tulips in Turkmenistan attract attention with early flowering (late February - early March) and a variety of flower colors: bright red, pink, yellow and cream. In our country, all types of tulips are listed in the Red Book.

Of these, 2 types of tulips grow in the collection of the botanical garden: Micheli's tulip (lat. Tulipa Micheliana) and Leman's tulip (lat. Tulipa Lehmanniana).

Tulip Micheli is a beautifully flowering plant, found on the territory of Kopetdag and Kurendag, from the foothills to the upper belt of mountains. Vegetation is marked in the first decade of February by the growth of two narrow-lanceolate leaves, then the stem appears.

Tulip Leman - found on the foothill plains and foothills of the Eastern Kopetdag and Badhyz.

Vegetation begins in the Botanical Garden in the first decade of February. And at the end of February and the first half of March, the budding phase passes. It is currently in the flowering phase.

Also at this time, on a sandy geographical area, along with some plants of the local flora, budding of Turkestan rhubarb (Rheum turkestanicum) is observed. This plant is found from plains to the lower belt of mountains, along slopes and valleys, in sandy and clay deserts - Big Balkan, Kurendag, throughout Kopetdag, Badhyz, Karakum and the Caspian desert.

Only one species grows in the collection of the Botanical Garden - Rheum turkestanicum. Turkestan rhubarb is a fodder, medicinal and food plant. The study of the vital activity of rhubarb shows that in the conditions of the Botanical Garden it retains its decorative qualities.

An important role in the conservation and rational use of plant resources belongs to botanical gardens and arboretums. The Botanical Garden is, first of all, a territory where collections of living plants from different parts of the world and different climatic zones are cultivated, studied and demonstrated for research, educational and educational purposes.

The exposition of plants of the local Turkmen flora is represented in the botanical garden by three ecological groups: mountain, desert and tugai vegetation.

The collection of wild, rare and economically valuable species of the flora of Turkmenistan is made up of trees, shrubs and herbaceous species. Most of the studied species have successfully adapted to the conditions of the Botanical Garden. With the first warm spring days, the awakening of nature begins, this can be especially clearly seen in the arboretum of the Ashgabat Botanical Garden.
